Introduction

Mindful of its responsibilities to its neighbours and the environment, City of Derry Airport established the City of Derry Airport Forum for the discussion of those matters, concerning the operation of the Airport, which impact on the surrounding areas and the users of the airport. The first meeting of the Forum was held on 25th March 1997. The name of the Forum was changed to the Airport Transport Consultative Committee at the start of 2006

Purpose of the Airport Transport Consultative Committee

It is the purpose of the Airport Transport Consultative Committee to provide facilities for consultation, as specified under Article 20(1) of the Airports (Northern Ireland) Order 1994, and required under the Airports (Designation) (Facilities for Consultation) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.

The purposes of consultation are

- To enable airport operators to exchange information and ideas with
bodies which have an interest in matters concerning the airport;

- To allow the concerns of interested parties to be raised and taken
into account by the airport operators, with a genuine desire on all
sides to resolve any issues that may emerge;

- To complement the legal framework within which the airport operates.

However, consultation is not intended

- To detract from or constrain the responsibility of the airport owner
and/or operator to manage the airport;

- Nor to prevent interested parties from raising concerns directly with
the airport or through other channels.

Terms of Reference

The Committee, under Article 20 (2) of the Airports (Northern Ireland) Order 1994, may consider any matter arising from the operation of the airport, which affects the interests of organisations in membership of, or having Observer status at, the Committee. These matters may include, but are not restricted to:

∙ to consider airport issues as they affect the communities represented or the amenities of the airport;

∙ to make suggestions to the airport where this might further the interests of the communities represented;

∙ to stimulate the interest of the local population in the development of the airport;

∙ to monitor the environmental impact of all aspects of the operation of the airport and to advise on operating procedures resulting from such monitoring with a view to minimising noise or other pollution from whatever source;

∙ to consider and enhance the interests of users of the airport;
